A starting point for climbing the mountain is the Schatzbergalm mountain inn , located northeast of the summit at 1776  m . It can be reached from Auffach via the Schatzbergbahn of the Wildschönauer Bergbahnen (from 1985 to 2017 as a 4-person gondola, since 2017 as an 8-person gondola). In winter, the Schatzberg has been the connection between the Alpbach and Wildschönau ski areas since the construction of a gondola lift and a ski slope on the Alpbach side in December 2012. The eastern flank of the Schatzberg had already been developed as a ski area with several chair lifts.
