action

Three young adults, Jan, Mara and Michael, drive past a fire service in a serious traffic accident. You get out and approach the accident in which a car is on fire. They take photos that they post on the internet. Spurred on by their curiosity and the diverse reactions from the Internet, they keep getting closer to the scene of the accident in order to be able to take even more spectacular pictures. After all, you are not afraid to get into a fire engine and pose for photos with a fire helmet.

What begins as a harmless game thus increasingly turns into a voyeuristic excess that even one of the firefighters cannot stop who stands in their way and wants to push them back from the scene of the accident. Finally Jan manages to get to the accident victim, who is being looked after by the rescue workers. He manages to take photos of himself and the victim, who is burned beyond recognition, until he is withdrawn by a firefighter. But even now, the three of them do not leave the scene of the accident, but stand a little to one side while Jan triumphantly sends the photo that he just took to his mother. She doesn't respond. When he calls her to follow up, a cell phone rings next to the burning car with a shattered display on which the words "Jan is calling" and a photo of Jan with an elderly woman can be seen.

Reception in the media - awards

The spot was viewed, shared and commented a million times over well over 10 million times. The audience was mostly moved and touched in the comments, sometimes angry about the ruthlessness of onlookers: “I rarely ask you to spread anything, but this video has to be spread. I have tears in my eyes ”“ Very, very strong video. It shows exactly the problem there is with the anonymity of the internet at the moment. Nobody thinks about what they can do with it {sic!} When they post such pictures on the Internet. ”Due to the success in the print and online media, the national and international press also reported extensively on the spot.

The film is also used in the prevention work of fire brigades, rescue services, police and driving schools.

In 2020 he was awarded the “rating of particularly valuable” by the Wiesbaden film evaluation office. The FBW justified the award as follows: “A preventive film against the rampant sensationalism of motorists who, as voyeuristic witnesses with their cameras, proudly spread the suffering of other people on the Internet. The film proceeds almost like a documentary in the details. Also due to the advisory cooperation of the police and fire brigade, which form the basis for the filmmaker's research, this film with its relentlessly impressive images is an appeal to reason for all road users. In addition, the film is superbly staged with its good camera and the game of the protagonists was also able to convince the jury. "
