Schaumburg Circle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schaumburger Kreis is an amalgamation of the liberal-conservative economic wing in the FDP .

history

The name of the group comes from their first meeting, which took place in 1969 in the " Schaumburger Hof " in Bonn. In 1992 the “Schaumburgers” were involved in preventing Irmgard Adam-Schwaetzer as Foreign Minister and Burkhard Hirsch as the new Minister of Justice. In May 1992, following the resignation of Hans-Dietrich Genscher , Schwaetzer was a candidate for the office of Federal Foreign Minister on the FDP party executive committee. However, the FDP parliamentary group vetoed this proposal, whereupon the then Justice Minister Klaus Kinkel became foreign minister in her place. Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger , with the support of the Schaumburger Kreis, prevailed against Hirsch in the dispute over the Kinkel succession in the Ministry of Justice. The Schaumburger Kreis became known to a wider public in December 2010 when a member passed on internal information from discussions of the Schaumburger Kreis about a possible replacement of Guido Westerwelle as party chairman and foreign minister to the press.

Personnel

Detlef Kleinert has headed the district since the second half of the 1980s . When he resigned from the Bundestag in 1998, Rainer Brüderle , who later became the leader of the FDP parliamentary group, took over his position. Other well-known members of the Schaumburger Kreis are the former Vice President of the German Bundestag Hermann Otto Solms , the former FDP General Secretary Patrick Döring and the former Bundestag members Martin Lindner , Stefan Ruppert , Volker Wissing and Heinrich Kolb .
