The Momvu disk knife is a characteristic knife from Central Africa . It is assigned across the board to the Momvu , but other ethnic groups also use this knife type, such as B. the Budu . Proper name is ugo or uggo .
The disk knife is sometimes associated with the African throwing irons , but it is unlikely that it was designed as a throwing weapon . It was probably a status symbol . Instead, it is counted among the Central African sickle weapons .
description
The disk knife has an unconventionally shaped, slightly curved blade with a round tip. On the sides of the blade there are three either pointed prongs or rounded protrusions. The blade is usually made of iron , but there are also specimens made of brass . The knife usually has a long, round handle made of wood or ivory , which is often wrapped with metal bands. The pommel is often conical . Usually the blade has chased decorations on one side . There are often several perforations in the blade that are used for decoration.
A related knife is the spatula-shaped knife of the Momvu and Budu. It is shorter (on average 34 cm), although it has a similar curvature, but no disc-shaped tip.
