The dummy beetles (Sphaeritidae) represent a family of beetles , of which only one species with the name Sphaerites glabratus occurs in Central Europe .
features
The representatives of this group reach body sizes between 5.5 and 7 millimeters. The body is short, oval and similar to the histeridae , the truncated wing covers ( elytra ), however, cover almost the entire abdomen. The color of Sphaerites glabratus is green-blue-metallic shimmering, the elytra are covered with conspicuous rows of dots.
Way of life
The beetles feed on resin and liquid tree sap, so they are found especially in spring and autumn on the bark of trees with flowing resin and in the resin-soaked soil.
