The Göppingen Gö 1 Wolf was the first glider manufactured by Sportflugzeugbau Göppingen Martin Schempp, founded in 1935 .

history

As a competitor to the Grunau Baby , it was developed and built by the designers Wolf Hirth and Reinhold Seeger as a stripped high-decker in wood construction from 1934. The wing and tail unit are partially covered with fabric and the landing skid has a built-in wheel. In 1936, the rudder was made smaller and slits were built around the aileron, as the Gö-1 could easily spin. There was also a fully aerobatic variant that had a V-strut on the wings instead of the simple one. Such a machine won a silver medal at the first international glider aerobatic competition in 1939 in St. Germain near Paris.

The first sample was made by the British company National Aviation Displays Ltd. bought and from the English glider pilot Joan Meakin in aerotow flew directly to London. From 1935 to 1940, around 100 units were produced in series in Göppingen (from 1938 in Kirchheim-Teck). Further Gö 1s were produced under license from Naumburg aircraft construction.
