The house at Scheuerleinsplatz 2

The house Scheuerleinsplatz 2 (formerly house number 170) is a listed building in Mainbernheim in Lower Franconia . The house was the birthplace of the poet Georg Scheurlin (or Scheuerlein), who gave the surrounding square its name.

history

The house at Scheuerleinsplatz 2 was probably built at the end of the 17th century. Perhaps the previous building was a victim of the Thirty Years War , which, however, largely spared the city of Mainbernheim. An inscription with the year 1696 mentions the year of construction. The design language , however, refers to an older construction period, so that the property may have been built at the end of the 16th century.

At the time of the construction of the upper floor at the end of the 17th century, a certain Johann Venn lived in the house, who was also responsible for the construction. In 1802, the future poet Georg Scheuerlein was born in the house. His father was a surgeon and was one of the respected people in the small town. It is noticeable, however, that the house at Scheuerleinsplatz 2 was not built in a representative way opposite the neighboring caste office .

description

The property has been classified as a historical building by the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments. Underground remains of previous buildings are listed as ground monuments . The house is also part of the Old Town Mainbernheim ensemble . It presents itself as a two-storey, gable- roof house with a slightly protruding half-timbered upper storey. The half-timbered structure has only recently been exposed and has long been hidden under a layer of plaster.

The windows of the house, which follow the interior layout and are not arranged symmetrically, are striking. The windows were decorated with fillet profiles , while the door frame was equipped with flat carpentry profiles . Instead of the usual rectangular windows, two round windows with clasps were installed in the gable triangle. The framework has rich decorations. There are man figures, field stalks, ankle bands and St. Andrew's crosses . Small decorative woods can be seen next to it.

The ground floor of the house was probably originally used as a stable and was therefore worked as a simple hall. The living area was placed on the upper floor, which is accessed by a spiral staircase . The living room can be found in the direction of Scheuerleinsplatz and originally took up the entire width of the house. The house has a spacious vaulted cellar. A basement neck leads into the hallway behind the front door.
