Sheet filtration

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The sheet filtration is used for clarifying , fine and sterile filtration of various fluids used. Here, about 4–5 mm thick filter layers are inserted between plates with cloudy and clear sides. It is a discontinuous filtration process . The mode of action consists of the sieve effect and an additional adsorptive component.

Plate filters are very important for the clarification and fine filtration of wines , spirits , fruit juices and beer, depending on the size of the company. In the case of microbiologically endangered products, they are often followed by verifiable membrane candles.

In line with the importance of sheet filtration, we are constantly working on further developing the layers. Even in the recent past, significant progress has been made in some cases:

  • Improvement of the sealing behavior to minimize drip losses in the "open system"
  • Reduction of the "layered taste release" in the interest of a very short water rinse combined with water and time savings, thus no negative impact on the first quantities of filtrate
  • Optimization of the kinetic charge ratios with the aim of a better filtration effect and a low initial dye adsorption .

history

In 1913 Friedrich Schmitthenner developed the first prefabricated EK filter (disinfection filter layer). Thanks to the cold sterile filling that is now possible, the wine cellar economy and sweet cider production have been put on a new basis in the world.

But like many inventions, the EK filter sheet was also used for military purposes. Where there was no germ-free water, the EK-Filter z. B. proven to be beneficial in hygiene . In the military arena, he was a knapsack used filter (20x20) aseptic for producing water for maintaining the health of the soldiers.
