Schietbüdel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The word Schietbüdel (also Schietbüddel; literally translated into High German as “shit bag”, so “ diaper ”) comes from Low or Low German and is now mainly used as a term of endearment , regionally but also as a swear word . Endearing means something like "my darling" and is mostly used as a friendly phrase (originally for a cute child).

The word Schietbüdel largely reflects the northern German language. It's direct, cheeky, but also loving and winking. Schietbüdel was voted the funniest word in northern Germany in 2008.

The phrase "mien seuten Schietbüdel!" - "mein sweet Schietbüdel!" Means something like: "my sweet child!" And thus corresponds to the high German expression "little shit", which is really only used for small children.

While this linguistic usage is at home in the greater Hamburg area and in Schleswig-Holstein (but should be known far beyond that due to the Ohnsorg Theater and the Low German broadcasts of the NDR ), the word is used in Rehlingen in the Lüneburg Heath as a swear word, as a name for a "bad person".

Recently, the word Schietbüdel has also been used in the literal meaning (which has been forgotten) for dog poop bags.
