Maritime Museum

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Maritime Museum (also Ship Museum , Maritime Museum ) is generally concerned with ships , the shipping and its history. In international parlance, the term Maritimes Museum (e.g. English maritime museum ) is often used, which is much more comprehensive than the similar-sounding German word marine museum and, for example, also includes oceanography . A better English translation would nautical museum for Ship Museum and naval museum for a Marine Museum . There are also submarine museums . The museum ship is a special form . A port museum is thematically similar . There are numerous overlaps in terms of content, especially when it comes to the exhibits. In addition to the state museums, there are - often linked to a museum ship or a specific location - numerous private museums .

The German Maritime Museum in Bremerhaven is a special feature: the entire complex with buildings and museum fleet has been a listed building since 2005 .
