The ship mill Orth an der Donau is a ship mill on the Danube in the Donau-Auen National Park in the municipality of Orth an der Donau in the Gänserndorf district in Lower Austria . The ship mill is a museum and can be visited by appointment and is approached with a chaike.

history

The ship mill was built from 1998 to 2001 with Martin Zöberl and four carpenters on the Walz from Hamburg .

The ship mill was damaged on February 5, 2008 and sank. As a result, rescue measures were undertaken with numerous helpers. It was approached with Zillen lifting bags and installed in the corrugated ship. Floating pontoons were brought under the mill ship and filled with air. On March 15, 2008 the Danube rose and the mill ship also collided with the bank. On June 21, 2008 the mill ship was lifted, resealed and pumped out, but the attempt failed. A dress rehearsal on June 30th also failed. Ultimately, the bridges and the water wheel between the mill ship and corrugated ship were cut off and at least the mill ship could be rescued to the boat harbor.
