The ship setting under the Lugnarohögen

The east-west orientated ship setting of Lugnaro ( Swedish Lugnarohögen ) near Hasslöv in the south of the historical province ( Swedish landskap ) Halland was examined and restored in 1926. The complex from the end of the Bronze Age (around 700 BC) consisted of a 3.75 m high earth or sod mound above a stone mound that covered an eight meter long ship settlement .

The Lugnarohögen under which the ship settlement lies

The ship consists of upright stones, only about 40 cm high, and has higher stern stones. A thin layer of burned human bones lay on the original floor within the ship's settlement. One grave consisted of a clay pot that had been placed in a small stone box just outside the ship. One side of the stone box was formed by a railing stone from the ship. The vessel contained burned bones and some bronze objects, a miniature sword with an antenna-like handle, tweezers and an awl from the younger Bronze Age. The finds show that it is a male burial.

The inside of the burial mound with a concrete roof can be reached through a small building that houses an exhibition about the complex.
