The sign Street is a street in Lübeck .
location
The sign Street, in the southeastern part of the Old Town Island ( Johannis district located), branches off the house Aegidienstraße 24 of the Aegidienstraße from. It leads along the south side of the Aegidienkirche to St.-Annen-Straße . It borders the Aegidienkirchhof .
history
The Schildstrasse was originally not considered an independent street, but was considered part of the Aegidienstrasse, first documented in 1286, for centuries. To distinguish between the two branches, today's Schildstrasse had the name up-to-ruggen affixed to it .
It was not until 1884 that the southern arm of Aegidienstrasse was declared an independent street and was given its name, which is still valid today. This name was derived from the medieval proper names of the houses on their north side, which were mentioned in documents To dem Schilde as early as 1365 .
The Schildstraße was largely spared from destruction during the air raid on March 29, 1942 and therefore has a largely preserved historical street scene.
