The Schill barracks is a barracks for NATO units in Wesel . It is named after Ferdinand von Schill (1776–1809). From 1965 it housed the 150 rocket artillery battalion and other units of the Bundeswehr.
In January 2010 the telecommunications battalion 284 was disbanded and merged with the NATO battalion, which moved from Maastricht to Wesel. The 1st NATO Signal Battalion is made up of soldiers from eleven nations and provides all communications and IT equipment for the NATO headquarters .
In October 2011, Federal Defense Minister Thomas de Maizière announced that severe personnel cuts were imminent for the barracks.
In January 2012 it became known that investments were being made in a rainwater retention basin, among other things.
Another barracks with the same name was located in Lütjenburg . The Air Defense Training Regiment 6 was stationed there until its dissolution .
