The Pearl Danio ( Danio albolineatus , Syn. : Brachydanio albolineatus ) is a small carp fish in Southeast Asia of Myanmar to Lao and on the Indonesian island Sumatra occurs, including in the flow areas of the Irrawaddy , Salween and Mekong .

features

The Schillerbärbling has an elongated, laterally only slightly flattened body. It reaches a maximum length of 5.5 to 6 cm, but usually stays at 3.5 to 4 cm. Its basic color is gray-green and iridescent bluish to purple, the back is darker, the belly lighter. A reddish longitudinal ligament begins in the middle of the body and extends to the base of the tail. After this longitudinal band, which appears white on preparations preserved in alcohol, the specific epithet albolineatus was assigned ( Latin albo "white", lineatus "lined"). The unpaired fins shimmer reddish. Females are more dull in color than males, are plump and grow slightly larger. The mouth is slightly above. It is flanked by two pairs of barbels . The upper jaw barbels reach below the middle of the eyes, the longer lower jaw barbels to the beginning of the pectoral fins.

Way of life

Blue danishes live in poorly structured social communities in small, fast-flowing rivers, including mountain streams. They mainly live near the surface and, in addition to zooplankton, feed on insects that have fallen on the surface of the water.

Aquaristics

The Schillerbärbling was introduced to Germany for the first time in 1911 and has been part of the standard range of pet shops ever since.
