The Schilliger wood is a wood processing company based in Haltikon, a hamlet in the village Küssnacht . The term Schilliger Holz is synonymous with the three companies Schilliger Holz AG and Schilliger Holz-Industrie AG in Haltikon and Schilliger Holz Sägewerk AG in Root-Perlen . The company also has Schilliger Bois SAS in Volgelsheim . The group of companies, one of the most important in Switzerland, employs 320 people at three locations in Switzerland and France.

history

In 1861, Blasius Schilliger founded the company with the purchase of an agricultural business with a sawmill and cider mill in Haltikon. In 1962 the sawmill and the cider mill burned down, after which only the sawmill was rebuilt. In 2000 the Schilliger Sägewerk AG was founded and a heavy timber sawmill was built in Perlen, community of Root .

In 2009, Schilliger Holz acquired the Volgelsheim plant in France from Klenk Holz and incorporated it into the group of companies as Schilliger Bois SAS . The original plan was to build another sawmill in Luterbach , for which a subsidiary was founded and building land was acquired. After the purchase of the Volgelsheim plant, however, construction in Luterbach was abandoned.

On January 9, 2017, the Haltikon plant suffered another major fire, the board plant and the glue plant were destroyed by flames. Two halls were completely destroyed. A new wood glue plant in Haltikon is due to start operations in the first few months of 2017.

Overview

The Schilliger companies have 3 sawmills, 3 panel plants, 3 planing plants and 3 wood glue plants. The company also has a fleet of 25 of its own trucks. The main customers are the construction and packaging industry in Europe. With 200,000 m³ of wood processed annually, the Haltikon sawmill is the largest sawmill in Switzerland (as of 2005). The company's largest sawmill, however, is the one in Volgelsheim, France, with an annual output of 300,000 m³.
