Planning the expansion of the B 27 near Tübingen

The Schindhautunnel is to form part of the planned four-lane expansion of federal highway 27 from Bläsibad near Tübingen - Derendingen to Stuttgarter Straße in Tübingen. The tunnel is intended to facilitate rapid passage and relieve the southern part of Tübingen .

The first planning documents were submitted in 2001 in Berlin by the Tübingen District President Hubert Wicker . After the Tübingen municipal council decided in favor of this route variant (the long Schindhaubasistunnel) in 2002, the political pressure to implement this variant increased enormously. In Berlin, the plans were initially not approved until 2004 - in response to political pressure, the decision was made in favor of the long Schindhaut Tunnel, which was included in the 2003 Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan as an urgent requirement. After the Federal Audit Office gave up its concerns in August 2011, the Tübingen regional council can take further measures to prepare for the plan approval procedure.
