Klaus Heinrich Scheufelen (born October 30, 1913 in Oberlenningen ; † January 26, 2008 in Tübingen ) was a German engineer , entrepreneur and politician ( CDU ).

Career

Klaus Scheufelen was born on October 30, 1913, the son of the paper manufacturer Adolf Scheufelen in Oberlenningen. After attending school, he began studying engineering (specializing in paper production) at the TH Darmstadt , which he completed in 1937 with the examination to become a qualified engineer. When the Second World War broke out , he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and, due to his qualifications, came to the Peenemünde Army Research Center in 1942 . There he participated, among other things, in the development of the waterfall anti-aircraft missile and became head of the development of the Taifun anti-aircraft missile .

From 1945 to 1950 Scheufelen worked in the group around Wernher von Braun in the USA on building rockets. In 1950 Scheufelen returned to Germany and in 1951 took over the management and technical management of his father's paper mill . In 1962 he received his doctorate in engineering. at the TH Munich . After the Apollo 1 fire disaster , Scheufelen was commissioned by NASA to produce flame-retardant paper. This paper was then carried on later Apollo lunar missions . In 1984 he resigned from the active management of the Scheufelen paper mill. In addition to managing the paper mill, he worked as chairman of the supervisory board at Baresel AG and as chairman of the board of directors at Neckarhafen Plochingen AG . In addition, he was chairman of the supervisory board of Maschinenfabrik Ravensburg AG .

Political activity

In 1952 Scheufelen joined the CDU. From 1958 to 1971 he chaired the CDU regional association North-Württemberg and from 1963 to 1970 was a founding member of the CDU economic council . He was also a member of the federal board of the CDU. He was later appointed honorary chairman of the CDU North-Württemberg.

Scheufelen belonged to the third generation after founding the family company of the same name in Lenningen . He was a Protestant, married since 1939 and had a son.

Others

Scheufelen was committed to the needs of the displaced . As a founding member of the Heimbau Genossenschaft , he ensured that inexpensive building land was available for the displaced in today's Hochwang district in Lenningen and that apartments were built.

He was a member of the Corps Obotritia Darmstadt .
