In 1876 Carl Baresel founded a construction company in Frankfurt am Main , which moved its headquarters to Stuttgart in 1903 . The Gesellschaft für Tiefbauten AG Stuttgart was founded on December 21, 1921 and entered in the commercial register on December 31, 1921 . Just a few days later, on January 14, 1922, the Gesellschaft für Tiefbauten AG Stuttgart changes its name to C. Baresel AG .

The stock corporation grew into an important construction company after the Second World War. In the post-war period until the 1970s, Gerhard Todenhöfer was a member of the board. He was followed by the politician Lothar Späth , who was on the management board (1975–1977) and on the supervisory board of C. Baresel AG . At the end of the 1990s, a nationally active company with around 1500 employees and several subsidiaries and associated companies in Germany and abroad. After 1990, Baresel acquired the Saxon construction company Hoch- und Tiefbau Pirna, which later merged into the Dresden branch, based in Heidenau. The main shareholders around 1990 were the Baresel-Bofinger families with around 41 percent, the Steidle-Sailer families with around 24 percent and the court chamber of the House of Württemberg with around 15 percent . In 1993 the Hofkammer secured a majority stake of 51 percent.

In September 1999, the competitor Köster Bau AG & Co. , Osnabrück, took over a 74.9 percent stake in C. Baresel AG . The seller was the court chamber of the House of Württemberg. As a wholly owned subsidiary of the Köster Group , the construction company has been operating as Baresel GmbH since 2005 . Baresel AG was deleted from the commercial register on January 6, 2006. Baresel GmbH has branches in Stuttgart, Grasbrunn near Munich, Neu-Isenburg near Frankfurt am Main, Neu-Ulm and Mannheim and belongs to the Köster group of companies GmbH in Osnabrück.

Until the year 2000, the then C. Baresel AG still owned the subsidiary Baresel GmbH & Co KG Kies- und Steinwerke , based in Ehningen . In addition to the stone works in Ehningen, the transshipment point in Rottenburg am Neckar and the gravel works in Laiz , district of Sigmaringen , it also operates the gravel works Nord-Moräne GmbH & Co.KG in Bittelschieß , district of Krauchenwies , as well as several holdings in the gravel and ready-mixed concrete sector in the Dresden and Lake Constance area.
