Schirmer / Mosel Verlag is an art book publisher founded in Munich in 1974 by Lothar Schirmer and the commercial artist Erik Mosel . The imprint Schirmer Mosel literature summarizes the literary division of the publishing since May of 2010.

Schirmer / Mosel is Europe's first publisher with a focus on author photography. Authors and artists dealt with in elaborate art volumes and catalog raisonnés include: Bernd and Hilla Becher , Henri Cartier-Bresson , Frida Kahlo , Anselm Kiefer , Helmut Newton and Cy Twombly . Since it was founded, the publisher has issued around 1,500 publications (as of March 2014).

On September 11, 1998, the publishing house opens the Schirmer / Mosel publishing gallery in the Hofgartenarkaden of the Munich Residence , in which regular exhibitions of works by the publishing house's authors and other events take place.

Awards

In 2012, the art book publisher Lothar Schirmer was voted Publisher of the Year 2012 by the industry magazine BuchMarkt . In 2019 the publisher received the German Publishing Award .
