The Battle of the Agger took place on January 2, 1584 during the Truchsessian War .

5000 mercenaries under Eitel Heinrich von Kirchberg , an illegitimate son of Heinrich II. Von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel , and Adolf von Neuenahr moved through the Aggertal and via Bensberg to relieve the besieged city of Bonn . Duke Ferdinand of Bavaria advanced against them with strong Spanish and Bavarian troops and set an ambush on the Agger between Brückberg and Lohmar .

The main force , reinforced by land riflemen , hid in the Lohmar forest , other units holed up on the Brückberg and the bridge was loosened. The bridge collapsed due to a flank attack while crossing the Agger, the allies of Gebhard Truchsess von Waldburg were separated by the flooding river and were beaten with heavy losses.
