The Battle of Bileća ( Bosnian Bitka kod Bileće , Turkish Bileća Muharebesi ) took place on August 27, 1388 near the town of Bileća in Herzegovina . Bosnian troops of King Tvrtko I , which were commanded by the military leaders Vlatko Vuković and Radič Sanković , faced an Ottoman army under the command of Lala Şahin Paşa . According to the Ragusan Mavro Orbini and his story The Kingdom of the Slavs (around 1601) the strength of the Bosnian army was about 7,000 men, that of the Ottomans about 18,000 men. The battle ended with a victory for the Bosnian army. The losses of the two armies are not known. The outcome of the battle in favor of the Bosnians ended the Ottoman incursions into the country for a short time. In addition, the victory over the Ottomans had a moralizing effect on the next confrontations, such as the one that took place the following year in the battle of the Amselfeld .
