Vlatko Vuković Kosača († 1392 ) was a Bosnian nobleman , Duke and Grand Duke of Bosnia ( Bosnian Veliki Vojvoda Bosanski ) in the 14th century . He was considered one of the best military leaders of Tvrtko I. .

biography

Vlatko was first mentioned as a duke in 1378 in a document from Tvrtko I. Kotromanić opposite Dubrovnik. In 1382 Kosača represented the king in negotiations with the Ragusans, in 1388 in negotiations with Dalmatian cities. At Bileća the same year Vuković-Kosača defeated the Ottomans. Vuković ruled the Duchy of Hum , which was part of the Banate of Bosnia and later the Kingdom of Bosnia . In 1389 he commanded a Bosnian army on the Blackbird Field , which was part of a Christian alliance against the Ottomans and fought together with the Serbian Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović against his advance in the battle on the Blackbird Field. In 1391 he expanded his possessions in the area of ​​eastern Hum and southern Konavle. He was one of the few commanders who survived this battle. Vuković's grave is in a village near Stolac in Bosnia and Herzegovina . The following is inscribed on the grave in the old Bosnian language, the Bosančica : " Ase leži dobri junak i čovjek Vlatko Vuković " ( German  Here lies a good hero and man Vlatko Vuković ). Sandalj Hranić , the nephew, left an important, enlarged legacy.
