The battle of Ponte Novu took place on May 9, 1769 in Corsica at the bridge Ponte Novu over the river Golo in the hamlet of Ponte Novu in what is now the municipality of Castello-di-Rostino . The Corsicans led Pasquale Paoli against the French under Noël de Jourda . The French King Louis XV. had acquired Corsica from the Genoese ; possession was secured by victory in this battle.
The inhabitants of Ponte Novu organize a memorial ceremony around the broken arch of the Ponte Novu on every anniversary of the battle.
In Ponte Novu there is a museum dedicated to Pasquale Paoli.
