The Battle of Cedar Creek or Battle of Belle Grove was a battle in the American Civil War that took place on October 19, 1864 in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia . It was named after the stream of the same name. Here in the early morning the Confederates under General Jubal Early attacked the troops of the northern states in their camp and were able to push them back almost seven kilometers. The VIII. And XIX. Northern corps were in the process of disbanding. General Philip Sheridan managed to gather the scattered troops and with the intact VI. Corps to form a counterattack. The surprised Early was repulsed with heavy losses for the southern states.
