The Battle of Hubbardton took place during the Saratoga campaign in the American Revolutionary War when, on the morning of July 7, 1777, British forces under General Simon Fraser attacked the rearguard of the American forces withdrawing from Fort Ticonderoga . Hubbardton was the only battle fought in Vermont in the American Revolutionary War .

The American commander was John Stark , leader of the New Hampshire militia . The British won on the wounded and prisoners, but the American resistance allowed the bulk of their forces to move to Fort Edward and take part in later battles in the campaign.
