The Battle of Kumyangjang-ni or the Battle of Gimnyangjang-ni was a battle in the Korean War that took place on January 26, 1951.

In this battle, the troops of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and the Turkish Brigade faced each other in Gyeonggi-do Province in South Korea. It took place during Operation Thunderbolt and ended in a Turkish victory.

prehistory

When North Korean troops invaded South Korea on June 25, 1950 , the South Korean government asked for UN troops to be sent. The Turkey was, according to US , the second State which has approved the deployment of troops. A Turkish brigade with 5090 soldiers was formed and placed under the 25th US Infantry Division.

As part of Operation Thunderbolt, which began on January 25, 1951, the Turkish troops encountered Chinese formations near Kumyangjang-ni on January 26, 1951. After a battle, the Turkish troops managed to take the place in the early evening.
