Sleepless is the fourth studio album by the Berlin punk rock band Jennifer Rostock . It was released on January 17, 2014.

Emergence

In April 2013 the band developed a basic version of the new album from demo material at the Horus Sound Studio in Hanover. For the actual studio recordings, she went to New Jersey, near New York, for five weeks the following month. There the album was recorded by music producer Chris Badami in his portrait recording studios.

The musicians Mc Fitti , Sebastian Madsen ( Madsen ), Jen Bender ( Grossstadtgeflüster ) and Jan “Monchi” Gorkow ( fine cream fish fillet ) also contributed features to the album .

reception

The album reached number 2 in the German, number 5 in the Austrian and number 40 in the Swiss charts.

Andreas Menzel from Plattentests.de rated the album Schlaflos with 3 out of 10 points. He sees the real strength of the band in straightforward songs that Jennifer Rostock perform with “a little roaring” and in which there is no “compulsive demonstration of the alleged multifacetedness of the band leader's voice”. Instead, the band used indie, hip-hop and club elements on the album Schlaflos and thereby missed “coherence and any special position”. He particularly criticizes the songs A Pain and a Throat , in which singer Jennifer Weist “tries to be a rapper”, and Phantombild , which falls into “silver moon-languishing spheres”. On the other hand, porcelain pigeons are said to be “a pop rock ballad with initial indie choirs and a rave-like intermediate section,” but the lyrics contain platitudes.

Amelie Köppl from laut.de , on the other hand, gave the album a benevolent assessment . It seems “mature” and “does not represent a quick shot”. It's more mainstream than indie, but that doesn't matter, since “the band works better on stage than on record anyway”. She positively highlights the song KBAG , which contains "the icing on the cake, the best sentence of the evening": "We don't have to find each other, we're always at the bar!"

Trivia

  • In addition to the 13 songs of the Standard Edition, the Deluxe Edition of the album also contains the DVD "Schlaflose Zeiten", which documents the creation process of the album.
  • The demo title of "In den Sturm" was "Lass Los".
  • The first drafts of "Hollywood" were made four years before the album was released. The band only managed to finish the track to their own satisfaction with “Schlaflos”. Before that he should have been on the album “Mit Haut Und Haar”. (According to the "sleepless times" document)
  • The documentary for the album also shows that another track that was recorded but did not make it on the album is called “Feuer Und Flamme”.
