The slender sunfish ( Ranzania laevis ) or Stutzmondfisch is the smallest species from the family of sunfish (Molidae). It is the only species in the genus Ranzania . Support moon fish reach a length of 70 to 100 centimeters. Your body is not disc-shaped like that of its relatives, but up to two times longer than high. The back is dark, the flanks silvery. There are white stripes on the head and around the eyes. Like all other sunfish, it swims through rhythmic movements of the dorsal and anal fin. Ventral fins are absent. At the end of the body, a fin edge replaces the caudal fin that is still present in the larva.

Fin formula : dorsal 18, anal 20

The slender sunfish lives widespread epipelagic in the western ( Florida to Brazil ) and eastern Atlantic ( Scandinavia to South Africa ) and in the eastern Pacific ( California to Chile ). It feeds on pelagic crustaceans and worms .
