The Schleinitzweg in Elsterwerda

The Schleinitzweg was an old, about 20 kilometers long overland route that connected the Lords Saathain with Mückenberg via the places Biehla , Kahla and Plessa . It owes its name to the Meissen noble family von Schleinitz , who sat on both places from the 16th to the 18th century. The path ran north of the Black Elster . It was raised and thus made flood-free and thus offered a safe connection between the two properties through the marshy lowlands of the river, which until the middle of the 19th century consisted of numerous rivers .

At the end of the 19th century, these places were connected by a newly built road , which is now integrated into federal highway 169 and which means that Schleinitzweg is now almost meaningless. Remnants of this old street have been preserved to the present. In Elsterwerda there is another street near the Biehla train station along the Węgliniec – Roßlau railway that officially bears this name.
