The Schleppamt Minden was a federal authority in the western port of the Minden waterway intersection and existed from 1946 to 1968. According to its tasks, it was responsible for the towing services of ships without their own propulsion on the Mittelland Canal from Braunschweig to Bergeshövede and on the Mittelweser , whereby it is a monopoly provider according to the law occurred for these services.

history

In 1905 the Prussian Landtag decided to introduce the towing monopoly in the law on the creation and expansion of waterways. This meant that only these state monopoly tugs were permitted on the canals in West Germany. The Hanover towing office was founded and operations between Bergeshövede and Minden began in February 1915 and between Minden and Hanover in December 1916. In 1921 the Prussian towing monopoly became the Reichsschleppbetrieb. After the Second World War , the Hanover towing office was relocated to Minden and opened there as the Minden towing office in June 1946. In an easterly direction, due to the relocation of the towing office, the route now extended to Braunschweig.

On December 31, 1967, these services were discontinued and then the Schleppamt Minden dissolved; the self-drive had prevailed.

The two remaining tugs were converted into ice breakers and assigned to the Minden Waterways and Shipping Office . The building of the State Shipyard Minden at the construction port of the Minden waterway intersection , responsible for the maintenance and repair of the tugs, was completely demolished in 2009 as part of the new construction of the Weserschleuse Minden .
