Towing power

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

With towing capacity part which is power loss of a motor or a vehicle drive referred to. The determination takes place on the test bench , the engine drag power being determined on an engine test bench and that of the drive train on a roller test bench .

In both cases, the engine may need to be warmed up to operating temperature with the drive train or brought to operating temperature using suitable devices.

The engine is driven externally on the test bench and the required torque is measured. The friction losses from the engine to the clutch are included . When measuring the drag power of the drive train, measurements are taken in the disengaged state. The friction losses behind the clutch via the gearbox , the cardan shaft or drive chain , the differential and possibly the hub drive are included here.

The drag power can be calculated as follows from the determined moment .

P power SI unit : watt Unit symbol : W
M. Torque SI unit: Newton meter Unit symbol: Nm
ω Angular velocity SI unit: 1 ( radian (unit) ) / second Unit symbol: 1 / s or s −1
