The Schleswig-Holstein government at Gottorf Castle was the central administrative body for the duchies of Schleswig and Holstein in the Kingdom of Denmark from 1834 to 1848 .

history

The administrative reform of 1834 led to a separation of jurisdiction and administration for the first time. The previous Gottorf Higher Court (for Schleswig) and the Glückstadt government chancellery (for Holstein) were both the highest courts and the intermediate administrative bodies. They were repealed and, for the purposes of jurisdiction, replaced by higher courts, over which the Schleswig-Holstein-Lauenburg Higher Appeal Court was superordinated as the highest court of the duchies. The administrative tasks were brought together in the new Schleswig-Holstein government, which had its seat at Gottorf Castle .

At the head of the Schleswig-Holstein government, the governor stood as chief president without direct participation in the business. The operational business was headed by a district president . The government consisted of two sections (departments) and several offices with a total of around 40 people.

As part of the Schleswig-Holstein survey , the essential tasks were carried out by the Provisional Government . The Schleswig-Holstein government at Gottorf Castle was dissolved in 1850. After the end of the survey, the ministries for Schleswig and Holstein were created in 1851 and 1852, respectively.
