Prince of Noer

Friedrich Emil August, Prince of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-August Castle (* 23. August 1800 in Kiel , † 5. July 1865 in Beirut ), later Prince of Noer called and 1864 by the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I as Prince of Noer confirmed , was Minister of War in the provisional Schleswig-Holstein government .

Life

Friedrich was the second son of Duke Friedrich Christian II of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg and his wife Louise Auguste of Denmark .

In 1831/32 his mother bought the Grönwohld estate and the neighboring Noer estate for him , whereupon he assumed the title “Prince of Noer”. After the death of the governor Friedrich von Hessen-Kassel in 1845, son and successor of his father Karl von Hessen-Kassel as governor of Schleswig-Holstein , Prince Friedrich took over this office. His older brother was the Duke Christian August (1798–1869). The two saw themselves as legitimate heirs to the throne of the duchies and also of the Kingdom of Denmark in the complicated question of succession . Their goal was a united Schleswig-Holstein in the German Confederation with a liberal constitution.

In March 1848, Prince von Noer became a member of the provisional Schleswig-Holstein government as Minister of War and he commanded the Schleswig-Holstein Army in the Schleswig-Holstein War until April 7, 1850 . After the lost Schleswig-Holstein uprising against the Kingdom of Denmark, he had to go into exile in 1851 . In Denmark chamber pots were sold with his picture on the floor.

In 1864, after the Kingdom of Prussia and the German Confederation under Austria's leadership had defeated Denmark in the Second Schleswig-Holstein War , he was raised to Prince von Noer by the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I.

Prince von Noer and his first wife are buried in Krusendorf .
