Louise Auguste Princess of Denmark (born July 7, 1771 in Hørsholm ; † January 13, 1843 at Augustenburg Castle ) became Duchess of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg by marriage.

Life

She was officially the daughter of King Christian VII of Denmark and his wife Caroline Mathilde of Great Britain . However, it is considered likely that Johann Friedrich Struensee was Louise Auguste's biological father. After the love affair between the Queen and Struensee became known shortly after her birth, she was separated from her mother. Mathilde was exiled to Celle before Struensee's execution, where she died in 1775. Louise Auguste grew up with her brother at court with queen widow Juliane , Christian VII's stepmother.

Louise Auguste was married to Duke Friedrich Christian of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg on May 27, 1786, following political interests . After the marriage, the couple lived at Augustenburg Castle on Alsen, which developed into the center of court life. She had a very close relationship with her (half) brother King Friedrich VI all her life .
