The Schleswig-Holsteinisches Schulblatt was a German-language specialist journal for the school system with an initial focus on religious education . It appeared for the first time on April 2, 1839, until 1848 in a quarterly cycle, then monthly, e.g. T. as a double issue. The magazine was continued from 1853 under the title Schleswig- und Holsteinisches Schulblatt , from 1856 then as a school paper for the duchies of Schleswig and Holstein in the same publishing house with continuous year counting until 1860.

During the 22 years of publication, the editorial team changed six times. The founder of the magazine and editor of the first two volumes was Carl Nicolaus Kähler , who initially wrote most of the articles himself. Right from the start, the school paper met with a great response from teachers and educators across the country, and Kähler's “original essays”, it was said, “were received with great interest”. He won Karl Christian Tadey as co-editor for the second year, with whom he left the editorial office . After Tadey's early death, Jacob Asmussen followed in this position with F. Langfeldt and N. Nissen. The magazine was also "well received" nationwide, so that a large part of the edition was distributed outside Schleswig-Holstein after 1848.
