Saccopharynx ampullaceus is a deep-sea fish from the family of saccopharynx (Saccopharyngidae) and with a maximum length of 1.60 m, the largest representative of Pelikanaalartigen . It occurs in the North Atlantic from Greenland to the Cape Verde Islands , lives at depths of up to 3000 meters, but is only known of a few specimens.

With its mouth, which is equipped with a large number of teeth, the snake looks like a monster of the deep sea. It can even devour prey larger than itself. The tail is thread-shaped and about four times as long as the actual body. The brain and eyes are very small and are in the front of the head. In some of the specimens found, several nodes were found in the tail, the origin of which has not yet been clarified. Common eels have the ability to knot; however, the curler is more of a driving stomach with few muscles in its tail.
