Adelsbach Castle

The Adelsbach Castle (Polish : Pałac w Strudze ) is located in Struga in the Powiat Wałbrzyski (German: Waldenburg) in Lower Silesia .

history

The castle built by Hans Abraham von Czettritz around 1565 in the center of the village belonged to the Duchy of Schweidnitz . It was probably built on the site of a previous building using building materials from the nearby Zeisburg . In the main facade there is a balcony portal with a coat of arms frieze from 1565 in the crown.

It is a three-story building with mansard roofs and a rectangular courtyard. In the eastern part of the north wing there is a rectangular tower with a helmet . The facades were given a baroque style by the then owner von Kluge in the 1730s. Two spiral staircases inside are from the time it was built, and one baroque staircase from the 1730s.

The hall on the upper floor of the east wing is decorated with stucco frame decoration, in the west wing there is a two-storey oval ballroom from the end of the 18th century. The elliptical wooden dome inside was decorated with a painted coffering. The coffered ceiling in the west room of the south wing was created in the 19th century. There is a fireplace on the second floor of the tower and a shell-shaped decoration below the flat ceiling.

After the transfer of Silesia to Poland as a result of the Second World War, the castle was initially used for purposes other than intended by the Polish State Agricultural Cooperative (PGR) and later abandoned to decay. It has been repaired since 2005.

In January 2019, 24 portraits with a total area of around 50 square meters were discovered under the plaster during the renovation of the ballroom. The frescoes were created in the 16th century and were covered by the oval wooden dome in the 18th century. The portraits depict four Roman German emperors and twenty rulers of Silesia .
