Banfi Castle - view from the south

The Banfi Castle (Croatian: Dvorac Banfi ) is a late Baroque building that in the village of Banfi in the Međimurje County in northern Croatia is. It is located not far from the Štrigova municipality and about twenty kilometers northwest of Čakovec , the seat of the county.

The castle takes its name thanks to the noble family Bánffy (Banfi) , whose members owned it in earlier centuries. The owners of the castle later were, among others, the members of the Feštetić family and Franetović. In recent years it has belonged to the Žižek family.

The castle was built in the 14th century by the Counts of Bánffy, lords of the nearby town of Lendava in present-day Slovenia , and was first mentioned in 1373. The ground plan is an L-shaped two-storey building, covered with a sloping roof. It has an arched entrance under a large arcade and a simple exterior facade with rhythmically aligned windows.

The structure was rebuilt in the 18th century and renovated about ten years ago. Next to the castle are agricultural areas, mostly orchards and vineyards .
