The Castle Baumkirchen (also lock Wohlgemutsheim or Castle Wohlgemuetsheim called) is located in the municipality Baumkirchen in District Innsbruck-Land of Tyrol (Schloßstraße 4).

history

Baumkirchen is first mentioned in a document as Pauminkircha viculum in 1040, the Lords of Baumkirchen in 1223, this noble family died out at the end of the 14th century.

The castle was built by Paul Heuberger in 1474, the castle chapel in honor of the Fourteen Holy Helpers was built by Paul von Kripp before 1517. In the 17th century the chapel was so dilapidated that it could no longer be used for worship purposes. Today's patronage of the Holy Trinity suggests a second consecration.

In 1587 the castle was acquired by Archduke Ferdinand of Tyrol for his second wife Anna Caterina von Gonzaga . Between 1622 and 1783 it came into the possession of the ladies' monastery in Hall . This was abolished in 1783 by Emperor Josef II . Then it came to the Counts Galen until 1959 . The last noble owner of the castle was Christof Bernhard Graf Galen, who died on May 5, 1973 as a benefactor and honorary citizen of the Baumkirchen community at the age of 88. In 1955 he had the chapel restored by Willi Ghetta, who uncovered three ceiling paintings from the end of the 17th century that refer to the old patronage of the Fourteen Helpers.

In 1959 Baumkirchen Castle was sold to the Don Bosco Sisters . The house was rebuilt so that it can serve as a monastery, retreat house and youth center.

Baumkirchen Castle today

The castle is a three-storey cube-shaped building with a high hipped roof . The building has sloping corner bay windows, which are optically connected to the gable front; A connecting passage leads to the chapel. Worth mentioning are the arched portal on the front, the hall and the frescoes uncovered in the chapel in 1955 .

Today a meeting center for the Don Bosco sisters in Baumkirchen has been set up in the castle. By 2014, the building was completely renovated and equipped with additions for conferences, including external organizers.
