Bisperode moated castle

The Castle Bisperode is a Grade II listed water tower in Bisperode .

The Paderborn prince-bishop Hermann Werner von Wolff-Metternich zur Gracht had the complex built from 1694 to 1700 on his family's fiefdom. Before this was probably the noble court of the extinct family of the Lords of Werder .

The three-wing building with an almost square courtyard is bordered by a walled moat. The courtyard opens to the south and a stone bridge crosses the moat. The two-storey tracts have stone plinths . The Corps de Logis is stressed like a risk. In front of the two wing buildings are square pavilions with curved pyramid roofs to the south . The main portal is framed by columns. In the segment gable is the builder's coat of arms. The two-story central wing remained unfinished inside and was only expanded after 1900.

Opposite are the farm buildings. The side access gates from 1694 form an architectural connection with their smooth cuboid structure. The rear park has old trees.

In 1875 the castle and estate passed into civil ownership; After a few changes, the farmer August Voss became the owner in 1901, and his descendants still manage the estate today and renovated the castle from 1979–1984.
