history

The earliest known owner of the vineyard Cotterd in the lordship of Bellerive ( Seigneurie de Bellerive ) was the stone carver Johannes Willading (1569-1610), governor of Avenches, married to Margaretha von Mülinen , daughter of Beat Ludwig von Mülinen . The two bequeathed the property to their daughter Anna Willading, who brought it to her husband Vincenz Stürler (1592–1670), Bailiff of Moudon, member of the Small Council and Venner zu Gerwern, Lord of Chardonne, with her. Their son Vincenz Stürler (1617–1678), governor of Morges, member of the Small Council and Welschseckelmeister, married to Maria Güder, bequeathed Cotterd to his eldest son Abraham. Abraham Stürler (1646–1699), Governor of Lausanne and member of the Small Council, in turn, bequeathed the vineyards to his son Franz Ludwig Stürler (1679–1768), officer in French and Dutch services, member of the Bernese Grand Council, Governor of Interlaken, Member of the Small Council and Kirchmeier.

Franz Ludwig Stürler had the house rebuilt in 1728, possibly by the cavalier architect Daniel Stürler (1674–1746), the brother of his wife Ursula Stürler. Franz Ludwig and Ursula Stürler were childless and bequeathed their entire fortune to Vincenz Stürler (1687–1746), pastor in Seeberg and Vinelz, married to Rosina Mangold from Basel. Their youngest son Johann Ludwig Stürler (1722–1788), member of the Grand Council, captain in Holland and governor of Fraubrunnen, sold Cotterd in 1785 to the banker François-Daniel Marcuard (1748–1792).
