Ebenau Castle (2006)

Ebenau Castle is on the southern outskirts of Weizelsdorf in the market town of Feistritz in the Rosental in Carinthia .

history

The Ebenau estate initially belonged to the Hollenburg estate . In 1200 it came to the Viktring monastery for the first time . The Dietrichstein zu Hollenburg family acquired the property in 1530 and built the Ebenau Renaissance castle in the late 16th century . Already in 1604 the castle passed into civil ownership and in 1670 it was bought again by the Viktring monastery. The Cistercians ran a dairy farm here , which was later leased. The manor house served the abbot as a summer residence in the 18th century. After the abolition of the pen, there were several changes of ownership. At the end of the 19th century, the Farlatti-Jesernigg family redesigned the building inside and out in a late-historic style . In 1996 the Walker family bought the castle and adapted it for an art gallery.

Building description

The castle, a mansion-like Renaissance building, is a two-story building with an additional mezzanine floor and a rectangular, three-part floor plan under a hipped roof . The two small corner turrets on the west facade were extended by small quarter-circle oriels around 1900. The secessionist facade and the balcony over the west entrance also date from this period .

The vaulted rooms in the cellar and on the ground floor date from the 16th century. A wooden beam ceiling from the 16th century has been preserved on the stately upper floor, and in other rooms remains of paintings from the 18th and 19th centuries.
