Location

history

The castle was originally a farm yard for Deutschlandsberg Castle . This came into the possession of the Peuerl family, from whom it came to Friedrich von Holleneck (Hollenegg). He lent the property in 1580 to the German citizen Feyel, to whom it owes its current name. Abel von Holleneck had the farm expanded into a residence where the descendants of von Hollenegg lived. In the second half of the 17th century the property was owned by Johann Baptist Freiherr von Puchbaum and before 1695 it was separated from the rule of Hollenegg (see Hollenegg Castle ) and became the independent rule of the von Puchbaum. Later, two great nieces of Karl Freiherr von Puchbaum, the married Maria Eleonore Countess Steinpeiss and Maria Anna Countess Gaisruck , inherited the property in the 18th century. From 1759 the Counts Gaisruck sat on the manor house and expanded it further. In 1805, Franz Xaver Graf Gaisruck sold the property to Johann Nepomuk Ritter von Kalchberg , who had a garden laid out and the castle in its current form. In 1810 the castle came into the possession of Josef Graf Weiserheimb and in 1815 that of Moritz Graf Fries . Prince Johann Liechtenstein acquired the estate in 1822 and merged it again into one dominion in Hollenegg Castle, which he acquired in 1821. It is still owned by the Liechtenstein family to this day . Extensive restoration work was carried out in 1974. The former Meierhof is rented out to private individuals and businesses.
