Fromenteau Castle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Fromenteau Castle (French: Château de Fromenteau ) is the alleged birthplace of Agnès Sorel , the mistress of the French King . Charles VII The location of the castle and the place where it stood, are controversial in research.

Detlev Schwennicke gives In his European family tables Fromenteau-en-Touraine as his place of birth, Meyers and Brockhaus write “Formenteau (Touraine)”. However, no place with this or similar name has been identified in Touraine .

Another Château de Fromenteau is now a winery in Vallet that has been known since 1260, was owned by the Maillard family and has nothing to do with Agnès Sorel.
