Caleb Folan (born October 26, 1982 in Leeds , England ) is a former Irish football player .

Player career

National

Caleb Folan began his football career in 2001 with the traditional English club Leeds United , for which he played for two years without ever being used in a league game. In his first year he was awarded twice, with both lending clubs together seven times. During the remainder of his contract, he was unable to attract the attention of United officials, so he left his hometown of Leeds in 2003 to join the underclass Chesterfield FC .

In April 2006, he had to undergo knee surgery. In October 2006 he scored the winning goal against West Ham United in the third round of the League Cup .

After showing very good performance at Chesterfield, he moved to the Premier League team Wigan Athletic for £ 500,000 in January 2007 . He made his debut on January 30, 2007 and scored his first goal less than a month later. Within the team, he played an important role in achieving relegation. Nevertheless, he was sold to the second division club Hull City shortly before the end of the transfer at the beginning of the 2007/2008 season . This made Folan's services cost £ 1 million.

With Hull City, for which he had already played on loan in 2001, Folan reached promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season .

On March 16, 2011, he moved to the Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer. There he played for the first time on March 26, 2011. On April 3, he scored his first goal. On February 3, 2012, Folan and the Rapids separated from each other.

On February 29, 2012 Folan moved to Birmingham City after a trial session . Due to an injury he did not play a game for the Blues and since the contract was not renewed at the end of the season.

On December 1, 2012, after a long injury, he moved to T-Team FC in the Malaysia Super League . After failing to score in 10 games, Folan left the club on March 27, 2013.

Back in England, Folan signed a three-month contract with Bradford City on September 28, 2013 . He left the club on December 26, 2013.

After almost a year as a clubless player, he moved to Kanbawza FC , who play in the Myanmar National League , in early 2015 .

International

Through his Irish grandparents, Folan received Irish citizenship and was called up for an international match in the country for the first time on March 15, 2008. Irish fans heard expressions of displeasure about his nomination, as they preferred to have native Irish on the national team. Folan was unable to play the next international game because of an injury. He played a total of seven international matches between 2008 and 2009.
