Groß Peterwitz Palace

The Groß Peterwitz Castle ( Polish Pałac w Piotrkowicach ) is the ruin of a castle in Piotrkowice ( Groß Peterwitz ) in the Trzebnicki powiat ( Trebnitz district ) in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland . The castle is considered to be one of the most remarkable early Baroque castles in Silesia .

history

Presumably there was already a manor house around 1392, when the village was first mentioned in a document. The von Nostitz family had lived here since the mid-16th century . The property passed through von Skopp to Anna Maria von Studnitz , who, after a first marriage in which she was married to Georg Leonhard von Colonna, married Joachim Wilhelm Maltzahn after his death in 1687 . He had the Renaissance building increased and redesigned in the style of the early baroque. The stucco work was carried out by Giovanni Simonetti or his brother.

The castle passed to Friedrich August Graf von Kospoth through marriage and in 1787 to Adolph Freiherr von Danckelmann . At the beginning of the 19th century, his son Heinrich had the extensive English landscape park laid out. The von Danckelmanns remained the owners of the castle until 1945.

After the transfer of Silesia to Poland after the end of World War II in 1945, the dominium became the seat of a state-owned agricultural production cooperative . The castle was initially used as a cultural center and was placed under monument protection in 1964 and therefore secured. Soon after the political change in 1989, the castle was sold and passed into private ownership, but continued to deteriorate. It has had a new owner since 2014.

Building

The castle is four storeys high mansard hipped roof . It is eight axes wide and six axes on the garden side, making it look very high. Except for the banded ground floor, all facade surfaces are adorned with rich stucco, especially the colossal pilasters , the shafts of which are covered with flower and fruit festoons and grotesque masquerons. Under the ear-frames of the windows, Renaissance-era profile draperies can be seen in some cases, the parapet areas below are filled with acanthus cartouches. The landscape park is completely overgrown, the mausoleum of those von Danckelmann is in ruins .
