Krölpa Castle around 1920

The castle was built around 1730 on the site of a former manor belonging to the von Brandenstein family . In 1888 it belonged to the Barons von Gleichen called von Rußwurm , who sold it to a real estate agent in Leipzig. On October 12, 1890, the Krölpa School Association purchased the building for 19,000 Reichsmarks and furnished three classrooms. A bell from the Zella monastery was installed as the school bell . The building was occupied in autumn 1891. In 1944 evacuees and resettlers were assigned to the building and a hospital was set up. The school also served as accommodation for the Volkssturm .

After the war it was used again as a school. From 2004 to 2007 the interior of the castle was gradually renovated. The external facades are to be renovated between 2017 and 2018.
