John-Victor de Jablonski

John-Victor de Jablonski (born June 4, 1913 in New York ; † March 4, 1990 in Darmstadt ) was a German painter in the tradition of French impressionism , a freelance artist and freemason . He comes from the Polish noble family Jablonski-Rykacz . He processed his experiences in the US Army and during the Second World War in his works. His pictures are painted in the style of “modern impressionism” as well as “visions”, “positive abstract” and “personal contact painting”.

Career

He spent his childhood and early adolescence on his grandfather's estate in Jablonia in Poland . However, he received his training at the National Academy , the American School of Fine Arts in New York City and the American School of Art in Chicago . He worked in the film business from 1933 to 1937. First as a set designer at MGM Studios for a year and then as a stuntman , until he moved to Paris in 1937 , turned back to painting and continued his artistic training with Marcel Evan - a student of Pissarro .

Shortly before the beginning of the Second World War, he returned to New York, where he worked as a freelance artist for around five years, including on frescoes on state buildings, until he was recalled to military service. He was one of the paratroopers of the US invasion forces in Normandy . In 1945 he was transferred to Vienna as a cultural officer, where he met his future wife: Elisabeth (nickname: "Lisa") Schneider, an opera singer from Darmstadt. After the war he went with her to the USA , but returned to Europe in 1959, and finally settled down with his wife in Darmstadt for the rest of his life. From September 1961, his studio was at Klappacherstraße 172 in Darmstadt. John-Victor de Jablonski was a member of the Darmstadt Masonic Lodge Zum Flammenden Schwert , which belongs to the Great State Lodge of the Freemasons of Germany .

In 1965 he was the first to win the Frankfurt Opera House Competition for Painting . Extensive exhibitions of his work took place in New York, Chicago, Hollywood , Paris, Vienna, Lausanne , Soest , Konstanz , Frankfurt am Main and Darmstadt. In 1975 he was one of the founders of the "Gilde 75" together with the painter Wilhelm Rabe, the sculptor Wilhelm Wegel and Ingeborg Nicklas and Urs Lixfeld. From 1985, the open studio in Erlenbach offered space not only for exhibitions, but also for music and lectures.
