Krapperup Castle is a magnificent castle-like building in the Swedish municipality of Höganäs in the historic province of Skåne . The oldest known manor on this site was built in the 14th century. The present castle goes back to a new building after 1570 and got its current shape through renovations in the 17th and 18th centuries. It has been under monument protection as Byggnadsminne since 1978 and is now operated by a foundation . A romantic- style park with streams, winding paths and a number of exotic trees was created around the castle .

The old stable on the access road is now used as an art gallery. The old forge houses a café and a souvenir shop. Another warehouse was converted into a music hall after a fire, where concerts take place in the summer.

The main building can be visited in spring (Easter to midsummer) and autumn (mid-September to mid-October) by pre-registered groups on a guided tour.

history

In the Middle Ages the estate was called Krappatorp or Krapparp and was owned by the Krognos family. In the following time, the estate changed through sale and inheritance between different noble families , including Podebusk , Rantzau , De la Gardie , Gyllenstierna and von Cooking. A member of the last named family had the estate converted into a family entailment in the 18th century . In 1967 the castle and manor were owned by the Krapperup Foundation of the Gyllenstierna family .
